Team Iran's Para Archery at Paris 2024
Iran’s Para Archery secured six Paralympic berths for the Paris 2024.
The squad celebrates its seventh Summer Paralympics
appearance at the Games.
The events include Individual W1 (men and women), Individual compound open (men and women), Individual recurve open (men and women), Team W1 (mixed), Team compound (mixed) and Team recurve (mixed).
Paris 2024 event program
A total of 140 Para archers (75 men and 65 women) can compete at nine medal events of Paris 2024, taking place between 29 August and 5 September.
The Venue
The Invalides will stage the Para archery competition, where
an ephemeral arena seating 8,000 spectators will be set up.
The Esplanade des Invalides is a huge
garden in the heart of the city and is located next to the Hotel des Invalides,
which was built during the reign of Louis XIV in 1687 as a military hospital
and retirement home for war veterans.
Brief History of Iran Para Archery at Paralympics
National Para Archery team boasts a
combined six Paralympics appearance and owns nine medals, including 4
Golds, 3 Silvers and 2 Bronzes.
The team made its debut at Summer
Paralympic Games since 2000, with exception of the 2008 Beijing Summer Games, and
that run continued at Tokyo 2020.
Sydney 2000
At the Sydney 2000 Paralympics, three
Iranian Para archers including Ebrahim Ranjbar, Heshmatollah Kazemirad and
Majid Kehtari competed at the Games, for the for first time.
Team Iran stood in
fifth place.
Athens 2004
At the Athens 2004, three Iranian
representatives also failed to reach medals in their second Paralympic experience.
Beijing 2008
Iranian Para archers were absent at
the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.
London 2012
London 2012 Paralympic Games marked a
historic moment for Iran Para Archery when Zahra Nemati became the first
athlete from the country to earn gold at either the Paralympic or Olympic
Games.
Iran’s Para Archery won two medals,
including a gold and a bronze at the event.
Rio 2016
A total of seven athletes (four men, three
women) represented Team Iran at Rio 2016 Paralympic Games with four medals,
including two golds, a silver and a bronze.
Zahra Nemati claimed her second
Paralympics title in Women’s recurve and Gholamreza Rahimi also won a gold medals
in Men’s recurve.
Tokyo 2020
Under the lead of Head Coach Majid
Kehtari, the team was highlighted by six Para Archers, including four men and
two women, represented the country at Tokyo 2020.
Team Iran concluded its fifth
appearance at the Paralympics with a Gold and a Silver.
Nemati topped the podium at recurve
and achieved her third consecutive Paralympics gold medal in Tokyo.
