Team Iran Men's Para Judo at Paris 2024


Iran Men’s Para Judo secures three Paralympic quota places for Paris 2024 and celebrates its sixth Summer Paralympics appearance at the Games.

A total of 148 Para Judokas from around the world will compete in 16 medal events (8 for men and 8 for women) of Paris 2024, taking place from 5th to 7th September.

The Venue

The Champ de Mars Arena will stage Para judo and wheelchair rugby competitions at Paris 2024. It is a 10,000 sqm building in the centre of Paris currently known as the Grand Palais Overlay.

Designed by French architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, this beautiful venue, built with sustainable materials, was created to host art, fashion and sports events.

 Brief History of Iran Men's Para Judo at Paralympics

Iran men’s Para Judo team boasts a combined five Paralympics appearance and owns four medals, including two Golds, a Silver and a Bronze.

 

Athens 2004

Iran men’s Para Judo was introduced to the Paralympic Games at Athens 2004.
*At Athens 2004, Team Iran’s Para Judo featured four athletes with vision impairments, under the lead of head coach Morteza Nik Eghbal, where 118 athletes from 30 nations competed in 13 medal events.
*At Athens 2004, Hani Asakereh claimed a bronze in the men’s 73kg division and became the first Judoka to win a medal for Iran.

 

Beijing 2008

Iran sent a total of five Para Judokas to the Beijing 2008 Summer Paralympic Games, where 129 judokas (82 males, 47 females) competed in 13 medal events.

*Saeid Rahmati finished in runner-up in the men’s 60kg division at Beijing 2008.

 

London 2012/ Rio 2016

Iranian Judokas failed to achieve a Paralympic medal at London 2012 and Rio 2016.

 

Tokyo 2020

Team Iran’s Para Judo was highlighted by two Para athletes at Tokyo 2020 Paralympics and two gold medals, where 136 Judokas (80 males, 58 females) from 41 nations competed in 13 events.
*The Games marked historic moments for Team Iran when Vahid Nouri (90Kg) and Mohammadreza Kheirollahzadeh (+100Kg) earned two Paralympics golds for the country, for the first time.
*Head coach Mohammadreza Haji Yousefzadeh and coach Alireza Amini conducted Iranian Judokas at the Games.

*Team Iran ranked third, behind Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan on medal standing.
