Iran’s Para Powerlifting secures six
Paralympic berths for Paris 2024 and celebrates its ninth Summer Paralympics
appearance at the Games.
Paris 2024 event program
Para WPPO will have 50-50 gender equality
in terms of athletes and medals. There will be up to 180 athletes competing in
20 medal events during five competition days in the French capital.

The Venue
The Powerlifting at the 2024 Summer
Paralympics in Paris, France will take place between 4 and 8 September 2024 in
Porte de La Chapelle Arena.
The eco-design venue will be
transformed into a cultural and sport hub for people in northern Paris after
the Games. Ahead of Para powerlifting competitions, the arena will play host to
Para badminton players from around the world.
This new 8,000-seat arena fulfills
that need, hosting major sports events in northern Paris and providing Paris
Basketball, its resident club, with a home base befitting its bold aspirations.

Brief History of Iran Para Powerlifting at Paralympics
National Men's Para Powerlifting team
boasts a combined eight Paralympic appearances and owns 32 medals, including 12
Golds, 10 Silvers and 10 Bronzes.
Iran Para Powerlifting made its
Paralympic debut at Seoul 1988, with exception of the 1992 Barcelona Summer
Games, and that run continued at Tokyo 2020.
Seoul 1988
Iran men's Para Powerlifting team made its Paralympic
debut at Seoul 1988.
*Debutant Aliakbar Eyvatan was the
only Iranian Para Powerlifter at Seoul 1988. He finished in sixth place.
Barcelona 1992
Iranian Para Powerlifters were absent at the Barcelona 1992
Paralympic Games.
Atlanta 1996
Iran’s Para Powerlifting featured six athletes in its
second-ever Paralympic appearance at Atlanta 1996, winning three medals in
total.
*Fereydoun Karimi, with a silver, Allahbakhsh Akbari and Hossein Zeinal Seiyavoshani, with two bronzes, were
the first Paralympic medallists for Iran’s Para Powerlifting.
Sydney 2000
At the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games, Team Iran’s Powerlifting
featured eight athletes under the lead of head coach Ahmad Deljavan and coach
Jafar Zabihi.
* The squad won a gold and five total medals.
* In men’s up to 100Kg, Amrollah Dehghan lifted 232.5Kg and claimed
the first Para Powerlifting Paralympics title for Team Iran.
Athens 2004
In his fourth Paralympics appearance, Iran men’s Para
Powerlifting team featured nine athletes at Athens 2004 and conducted by head
coach Davoud Behtaj and coach Ahmad Deljavan.
*Team Melli achieved five medals, including two golds, and
three bronzes.
*The Para Powerlifters Morteza Dashti (48Kg) and Kazem Rajabi
(100Kg) were the two gold medallists for Team Iran.
Beijing 2008
Iran sent seven Para Powerlifters to the 2008 Beijing Paralympic
Games.
*Team Iran concluded with two golds and five medals in total.
* In men’s up to 60Kg, Hamzeh Mohammadi won the gold medal with
a lift of 202.5Kg. and set a Paralympic record.
*In men’s over 100Kg, Kazem Rajabi also topped the podium with
a World and Paralympic record of 262Kg.
London 2012
Team Iran’s Para Powerlifting competed at London 2012 Paralympic
Games with seven athletes, under the lead of head coach Aliasghar Ravasi.
* The squad bagged six medals, including four golds, a silver
and a bronze.
* Iranian Legendary Champion Siamand Rahman with a lift of
280Kg clinched his first gold medal and broke the Paralympic record with a lift
of 280kg in men’s heavyweight (over 100Kg) at London 2012.
* Nader Moradi, Ali Hosseini and Majid Farzin were the other
Iranian gold medallists at the Games.
* Team Iran men’s Para Powerlifting finished in third place
at London 2012.
Rio 2016
Under the lead of head coach Ahmad Deljavan, the team was
highlighted by six Para Powerlifters at Rio 2016, with three medals, including
two golds and a bronze.
*Majid Farzin claimed the title of men’s 80Kg, with a lift of
240Kg.
*Siamand Rahman also made history by clearing the bar at
310kg in the men’s over 107kg, setting a new world record and claiming his
second consecutive Paralympic gold.
*Iran men’s team ranked second in the medal standing.
Tokyo 2020
In its eight Paralympics appearance, Team
Iran’s Para Powerlifting featured five athletes at Tokyo 2020.
*Iranian Para Powerlifters collected five
medals, including a gold, three silvers and a bronze in Tokyo.
*Rouhollah Rostami was the only gold
medallist for Team Iran, with a lift of 234Kg in men’s up to 80Kg.
*Iran men’s team ranked fourth in the medal
count of Tokyo 2020.
