Iran’s Para Taekwondo secured five
Paralympic berths for Paris 2024 Games.
Iranian Taekwondoins will begin their
second-ever Paralympic appearance in Paris on 29 August.

Up to 120 Para Taekwondoins will compete
in 10 medal events at the iconic Grand Palais from August 29 to 31, 2024, in
Paris, France.

The Venue
Para taekwondo competitions will take place at the Grand
Palais. Located in the heart of Paris, the
venue has a long history of hosting art and sport events. Originally built for
the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1900, the Palais is known for its magnificent
nave and glass roof.
Following Paris 2024, the Grand
Palais, which will fully reopen in spring 2025, will continue to host cultural
events throughout the year.

Brief History of Iran Para Taekwondo at Paralympics
The first Para taekwondo World
Championships were held in 2009 with more than 30 athletes. Eleven years later,
the sport made its Paralympic debut at Tokyo 2020, featuring 70 athletes from
more than 37 countries and regions.
Team Iran’s Para Taekwondoins also boast
a combined one Paralympic appearance and owns a gold and a silver.
Tokyo 2020
Iran’s Taekwondo team featured three
athletes at its first Paralympics in Tokyo, under the lead of Payam
Khanlarkhani (men’s division) and Atefeh Keshavarz (Women) as the Head Coaches.
*Asghar Azizi (with a gold in +75Kg) and
Mahdi Pourrahnama (with a silver in 75Kg) were the first Iranian Taekwondo
medallists in Tokyo Paralympic medalists.
* In Women’s side, Rayeheh Shahab finished
in fifth place of +58Kg.
*Team Iran Para Taekwondo ranked second behind
Brazil in medal table.
