The Iranian men team will partake at the championships with the aim of winning the title, according to the coach.
The competition will be held in Bangkok, Thailand from 19-27 August.
A total of eight teams will vie for a place at next year’s World Championships since the tournament serves as a qualifier for the 2018 IBSA Goalball World Championships which will take place between June 3 and June 9 in Malmo, Sweden.
Iran’s men team have been drawn along with host Thailand, South Korea and Kazakhstan in Group A.
Group B consists of China, Japan, Iraq and Australia.
Iran will start the tournament with a match against Kazakhstan on Monday.
“We participate in the competition to win the title and book a place at the Goalball World Championships. That’s why we are here,” Iran coach Mehdi Nabati told Paralympic.ir.
“We are well-prepared for the event and I hope we can win the trophy that we so desire,” he added.
The Iranian women team will also begin the tournament with China on Monday.
Goalball is one of the many sporting opportunities available to people who are blind or have low vision.
