Iran's wheelchair basketball players lost the Paralympic opener 39-81 to the two-time Paralympics gold medalist
On August 26th, wheelchair basketball players made the Paralympic 2020 debut for IR Iran Delegation at Masashino Forest Sport Plaza.
The match started at 10:15 (Tehran local time) with Team Australia overpowering Asia's 2018 gold medalist with their highly accurate shoots. Team Iran couldn't make a comeback and finished 19-48 at half time.
The second half kicked off with Team Australia dominating the match and scoring more points to register a 42-point win over Iran.
Of the result, Abbas Aghakouchaki, Iran's head coach, said: “We didn't expect to lose the first preliminary to Australia by this result."
Team Iran will play the second leg of Tokyo 2020 preliminaries against Rio 2016 gold medalists USA on Friday.
