Iran’s Men Sitting Volleyball atop the world ranking
World ParaVolley introduced Iran men’s sitting volleyball as the top team in the latest 2023 Rolling World Ranking list.

 

According to the World Para Volley's announcement, Iran men’s sitting volleyball remained top of the latest 2023 Rolling World Ranking list.

Male sitting volleyball players of Iran have secured the top place in the world ranking list with 4500 points while the country’s female squad has landed 13th with 1048 points.

Bosnia & Herzegovina and Brazil’s men are second and third with 3920 and 3673 points respectively.

Iranian Sitting Volleyball Domination in the World

Ranked atop over the past four decades as the most decorated team in sitting volleyball, Iran’s star-studded team remained unrivaled during 9 Paralympic appearances with 7 gold and 2 silver medals.

Iran Men’s Sitting Volleyball Team was in great shape this whole competition year. Defending champions won the men’s eighth title at the World Championships in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

 

The First Titles in:

World Games– 1985

The Kristiansand, Norway 1985 edition, featured the debut of Iran’s appearance in the World Championships where the Iranian men’s sitting volleyball team provided a formidable barrier among its opponents. The Iranian team unbelievably defeated the Netherlands- reigning champion/title holder- achieving its moment of glory in the final match to clinch the title that was the beginning of a powerful appearance of our team at international, regional, world, and Paralympic stages. Since the 1985 World Championships, Iran has not finished lower than third in any WC competitions.

 

Paralympic Games– 1988

In the Seoul 1988 Paralympic Games, with the participation of 10 teams, the Iranian men’s sitting volleyball team was crowned for the first time and was standing atop the podium by grabbing the gold medal to stamp their world-class status in the Paralympic scene.

 

FESPIC and APG Games- 2006

In November 2006, the 9th and last edition of FESPIC Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia was held where I.R. Iran NPC could enter 8 teams to participate. Iran’s national sitting volleyball (M) won the gold medal when the zone of Asia was recognized by the IPC, and thus the inclusion of sitting volleyball in the Asian para games was practically fulfilled. Iran also continued its dominance of men’s sitting volleyball, winning the Asian Para Games title three consecutive times, from 2010 t0 2018.

Rolling ranking points

This rolling ranking list was compiled using points allocated from the following competitions:

2020 Paralympic Games

2020 PG Qualifying event

2022 World Championships

Two Zonal Championships (2017 or 2019/2021)

 

The Rolling Ranking points are compiled using the points allocated from the last competition of each kind except the Zonals, where two competitions are used.
