The draw for the 2022 IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships took place at the Dubai Sports Council on Wednesday 8 February 2023 at 11:30 am.
Iran have been drawn alongside USA, Great
Britain and Iraq in Group D of the 2022 IWBF World Championships.
The groups for the 2022 IWBF World
Championships determined at the Official Draw which took place today on the 8
February 2023 at the Dubai Sports Council.
The 16 men’s teams have been drawn
across four groups and the 12 women’s teams selected into two groups. The teams
have been seeded and paired to ensure a fair distribution.
The groups are as follows:
MEN’S:
Group A: Australia, Italy, Brazil, United Arab Emirates
Group B: Egypt, Germany, Canada, Thailand
Group C: Netherlands, Argentina, Korea, France,
Group D: USA, Great Britain, Iran,
Iraq
WOMEN’S:
Group A: Algeria, USA, Thailand, Japan, Germany, Netherlands
Group B: Brazil, Canada, China, Australia,
Spain, Great Britain
The teams (listed above) all
qualified through their relevant zonal Championships, apart from the United
Arab Emirates who have automatically received a host spot in the men’s
tournament, and China and Thailand in the women’s tournament who have replaced
their respective Asia Oceania zonal counterparts, United Arab Emirates and
Iran, who opted not to participate.
Hosts United Arab Emirates will
welcome over 300 international wheelchair basketball players representing the
following 12 women’s and 16 men’s teams to compete over twelve days of
competition at the showcase event.
