The Asian Paralympic Committee (AsPC)
and the National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia today announced that Phnom
Penh will be the host city for the 2029 Asian Youth Para Games.
These will be the sixth edition of
the Asian Youth Para Games and will follow the Tashkent Asian Youth Para Games
in 2025.
Following AsPC Executive Board approval,
President Rashed responded positively and the AsPC will now work on an MOU with
NPC Cambodia and the Local Organising Committee during a visit to Cambodia in
March. The 2029 Games will follow on from the Asian Youth Games and will use
many of the same facilities.
Commenting on the announcement,
President Rashed said; ”The Asian Youth Para Games are a vital part of the
development of the Paralympic Movement in Asia. We are very proud that they are
now well established in our region, and we are seeing the success stories of
athletes who are progressing from the Youth Para Games to the Asian Para Games
and onto the Paralympic Games. We are very grateful to his Excellency Prime
Minister Hun Manet, the Government and the people of the Kingdom of Cambodia
for this show of faith in our young para-athletes. It is exciting to think that
there are some young children who may have only just started their journey in
sport, who can now dream of competing at these games in 2029.”
