Iran NPC, Tehran:
The 2024 National Paralympic Day (NPD) was officially launched by Iran NPC today on 15 October, following the opening of a domestic Festival of Para Sports for Youth, in Tehran.
Iran's NPD aims at introducing the Paralympic Movement to the society, changing the attitudes towards the Persons with Disabilities and to pave the path for inclusion of them.
By highlighting the capabilities of the Para athletes, Iran NPC has been motivated persons with disabilities and their families to be more involved in sports and also, encouraged the government to provide better support of National Paralympic Movement, over the years.
The History of Iran's National Paralympic Day
The creation of "National Paralympic Day" dates back to the 22 years ago. As a pioneer, NPC Iran sent the plan
of holding National Paralympic Day ceremony to the International Paralympic
Committee.
On the 5th of November 2002, IPC Secretary General Miguel Sagarra
replied to Iran NPC’s plan through a supportive message. IPC Secretary General Miguel
Sagarra's Supportive Message: “I would like to congratulate you on your
initiative and encourage you to work hard.”
Following NPC officials’ efforts and
IPC positive considerations, Iran NPC organized a pre-test event, and a ceremony
was held by the attendance of 300 children with disabilities along with their
families, training coaches, Paralympic champions and sports officials at the
National Olympic and Paralympic Academy (NOPA) in Tehran.
Following the success of several editions of National Paralympic Day in previous years and outstanding feedback from last year’s National Paralympic Week, Iranian officials have agreed to make the 24 Mehr (this year 15 Oct.) as the “National Paralympic Day” in the country’s calendar.
The move followed by the request made of Iran's NPC to the relevant respective bodies to create an annual day that celebrates the Paralympic Movement in across the country.
