Iran NPC, Tehran:
On Saturday,
President Pezeshkian visited the Ministry of Sport and Youth and attended a
session with the Sport Minister along with the officials of both National
Olympic and Paralympic committees.
He made
recommendations on the development of a comprehensive plan for the future of
sport, as well as efforts to promote justice in that field.
The president
called for identifying capacities, reforming existing processes, and developing
a comprehensive plan for the future as priorities of the Ministry of Sport and
Youth.
During the meeting,
Iran National Paralympic Committee President Dr. Ghafoor Karegary said: "Sport
is considered as a powerful tool to enhance social inclusion and improve well-being
of persons with disabilities. Over 60,000 athletes with a disability from across
the country are under the auspices of the NPC Iran.
"In recent
years, there has been a lot of progress in Iran Paralympic sports and our Para
athletes have been succeeded in several games and competitions. Iran secured
the second place at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Para Games, which was a significant
accomplishment," Dr. Karegary added.
The vast majority of athletics websites make it
hard for people with disabilities to see themselves participating in sport. Access
to the training facilities is a demand for elite athletes with a physical
disability. To pave the para-athletes path, we should cooperate for setting up in
a multi-purpose training center and with accessible accommodations," President
Karegary concluded.
