Iran NPC, Tehran:
March 1st marks a solemn occasion for Paralympic family
around the world and specially in Iran as it commemorates the death anniversary
of Iranian Para Powerlifting Legendary Champion Siamand Rahman.
As a pioneer of his sport, Siamand Rahman was an inspiration
for many in Iran and around the world. He was a unique ambassador for
Paralympic Movement.
Rahman's Sport Achievements
Iranian Para Powerlifter started his international career in
2008, winning the gold medal at the IWAS Junior World Games in the USA.
Rahman’s most memorable sporting achievements came in 2012 and 2016 when he won
two gold medals at the Paralympic Games in London and Rio, respectively.
At Rio 2016, the Iranian became the first Paralympian to
break the 300kg barrier with an amazing lift of 310kg in the men’s over 107kg
final.
The strongest man in Paralympic history was also a
three-time world champion (Dubai 2014, Mexico City 2017 and Nur-Sultan 2019)
and three-time Asian Para Games gold medallist (Guangzhou 2010, Incheon 2014
and Indonesia 2018).
And Nur-Sultan 2019 became the last stage where Siamand— the
ever-smiling Iranian champion, the strongest individual with a disability in
the world— lifted weights.
Though he was striving for yet another legendary record, on
his way to securing a place at the Tokyo 2020, collecting points to claim his
third Paralympic gold, in a moment of unbelievable sorrow, he left this world.
He passed away at the age of 31, on March 1st, 2020, after suffering a heart
attack.
In May 2021, a giant bust with a brief history of Rahman’s
career was unveiled at the entrance of his hometown Oshnavieh, in the northwest
of the country.
His life and triumphs are an inspiration to many athletes,
not only in Iran but all over the world.
Though he may be gone, his legend will never fade.
