Iran recorded its first win of men's group stage at the World Championships on Wednesday.
Iran grabs its first victory of Dubai World Championships over Iraq on 14 June 2023.
IRAN NPC, Tehran- The team rode on Omid Hadiazhar effort to beat Iraq 83-41 in the final Group D game to finish the league stage in third place.
Hadiazhar was the top scorer of the game with 23 points.
Iranian head coach Mohammadreza Dastyar, said:
“Our target is making the top eight of the championships. I am happy how the boys played at the Championships because my team didn't have any friendly match before the championships. We are focusing game by game.”
Iranian men had been opened their task at the World
Championships in a very tough group, with both giant GB and USA teams, fancied
to play the final of 2023 edition; Their first attempt ended in a 59-90 loss to
world champion Britain and despite a convincing display, they were also
defeated 74-82 by Tokyo Paralympic champion the USA, in the second group match.
The team will face France in men’s last-16 on Thursday 15 June.
The world’s wheelchair basketball elite are meeting from June 9 to 20, 2023 at the Dubai Trade Center hall in the UAE.
