Iran’s national Wheelchair Basketball team was defeated by Australia in its fourth match of IWBF AOZ Championships today.

 

Iran NPC, Tehran: In Pool A action on Tuesday, January 16th, Team Iran suffered a shock 60-69 defeat at Australia’s hands, losing at the 2024 IWBF Asia Oceania Wheelchair Basketball Championships for the first time since the opening of the event.

On the fifth day of AOZ Champs which is held at the Bangkok Youth Center, the Australians got out to a good start in the first half, leading 35-32 at the break on the back of their defensive energy, but were outscored 15-16 in a nail-biting third quarter with Iran taking the lead. Team Australia clawed back to regain the lead in the fourth quarter with the score of 19-12.

Team Melli had formerly won South Korea, Thailand and Japan. Iran’s Men will next play against China.
The 2024 Asia Oceania Championships is underway in Bangkok, Thailand from January 12 to 20. The winners will qualify directly for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
